What’s Included

A guided and supported walk/climb

I’ll be honest… This walk is not for the faint hearted and will require commitment and fortitude. Whilst the return walk is approximately 15km, the climb is over 500m and large sections of the climb are steep. You will require the support of your colleagues and a positive mindset to complete the challenge.

When you have a chance to catch your breath, you can enjoy the beautiful surrounds of the D’Aguilar National Park.

A moderate level of fitness is required, but the value of completing this walk in a group will be the collegiality and support received from each other and the expertise that David Alley brings. Completing this challenge will provide a “sense of achievement” and YOU WILL finish as part of a team. We only move as a group and ensure everyone is supported.

  • We start early in the day and walk from Banks Creek Retreat to Dundas Bush Camp (close to Mt Nebo) – This “climb” will take approximately 4 hours (although the map indicates a much shorter time)
  • We’ll take a break at the top for lunch and to catch our breath (approximately 1 hour).
  • Then we’ll descend along the same path back to Banks Creek Retreat (Approximately 2-3 hours)

This is a FULL DAY event and it is best to ensure you do not have plans in the afternoon. We try to leave as early as possible to take advantage of the cooler part of the day for the climb up. If members of the group require rest breaks, we all stay together.

Whilst we endeavour to complete the challenge in 8 hours, completion will be dependent on the group fitness and discussions we have along the way.

Approximate Schedule :

  • 0700 – Depart from BCR
  • 1200 – Lunch stop at Dundas Bush Camp
  • 1300 – Depart from Dundas Bush Camp
  • 1530 – Return to BCR
  • Note that finish times may be later depending on the pace of the group.

Opportunity to walk and talk with a world champion

David will ensure that he takes the opportunity to talk with each participant about their individual fitness and mindset goals.

Banks Creek Retreat encourages each member to attend this event with a positive attitude and a willingness to support each others’ mental health. Challenging walks like this can sometimes “open the cracks” and provide opportunities to share our stories.

At times we may stop to discuss topics that crop up or support a fellow climber who may be struggling. Whilst there is no requirement to discuss your personal stories, we want you to know that we are open to those discussions and that others in the group may raise topics during our journey together.
